"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." Nelson Mandela @ trial in 1964. RIP

Darwin's 200th Birthday Blog - back to Science.
By a wonderful sets of twists of fate, I'm spending the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin (and Abe Lincoln) at a Darwinesque symposiom in Washington DC. The syposium, titled " 21st Century Ecosystems:Systematic Risk and the Pub lic Good,"m is sponsored by the National Academies of Science and hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). I won't be live blogging, as I have "official duites" here, but I'll be posting summaries and insights as updates to this post as the day goes on.
